ecocell 2

‘Journeys in carbon-free discipleship’

Our last ecocell day on Housing and Energy – fairness for all was in London on Saturday 24th January 2015. Report

Read about our previous ecocell day on food in London on Saturday 18th January 2014.

ecocell 2 is for those of us who are willing to take on the very demanding commitment of completing the journey to sustainability.

We will commit ourselves to getting our carbon footprints down to the level required for sustainability. We will also ensure that we respect the laws of nature (in which we see the hand of our Creator) and the needs of the natural world, in all aspects of our lives.

ecocell 2 is for people who have completed ecocell 1or an equivalent programme. It will involve significant further learning, very committed action at the personal level, and at the local political level. Like in ecocell 1, we will be supported through prayer, poetry, stories and group activities, and by a range of resources available from Green Christian. We anticipate that this stage will take a period of about five years, to make the necessary changes in our lives.

Introducing ecocell 2 elaborates further on ecocell 2, the second stage of the ecocell journey.
First Module the introductory module to ecocell 2.
Core Module the base camp that we return to after each of our explorations on ecocell 2; where we support and challenge each other – and have fun.

Original spreadsheet for recording consumption: ecocell Footprint Measurement Spreadsheet, and  explanatory notes,  also Footprint Measure for Car Travel Spreadsheet

Simplified spreadsheets (corrected January 2014): blank Spreadsheet containing ecocell Footprint Calculator and Example Spreadsheet plus a friendly Guide Jan 2014.

The other modules are being introduced as members are ready to explore how best to reduce their emissions in particular areas.

  • Energy Use in The Homelearning to use energy effectively.(Associated document: Survey Green Christian Energy Knowledgeable People)
  • Food Module learning to nourish ourselves in a sustainable way.
  • Transport Module
  • Other Stuff Module this module tasks us to look at the impacts and emissions of other things in our lives, for example white goods, electronic goods, clothes, furniture, books, newspapers etc and also services that we purchase such as those of a solicitor or cleaner, a ticket for the theatre, holiday accomodation and so on.
  • People Power Module. Few of us can directly influence the decisions of the public services and large corporations that can result in heavy carbon emissions and environmental damage. But collectively and through campaign organisations we may have more influence than we realise we can have, as this module explores.
